First In-Person Ecoop Transition Partner Meeting in Lucera, Italy

The Ecoop Transition partners finally met in person for the first time in Lucera, Italy, marking a key milestone in the project. Hosted by Meridaunia, this meeting was an important opportunity for the team to connect, reflect on progress, and explore real-world examples of energy cooperatives in action.

The meeting focused on reviewing the project’s early work, including the development of case studies showcasing successful community-led energy initiatives. Discussions also covered the next steps for creating educational resources that would help rural communities take charge of their energy transition.

A highlight of the trip was a site visit to Biccari, where we met the town’s mayor, who shared Biccari’s inspiring journey towards becoming an energy cooperative. Biccari has taken real steps towards sustainability by embracing community-owned renewable energy, proving that small towns can lead the way in energy transition. Seeing this in action reinforced the importance of our work and provided valuable insights that will shape the next stages of the Ecoop Transition project.

Beyond the meetings and site visits, this was the first time the partners met face-to-face, making it a great chance to build stronger relationships. With a clearer vision and renewed energy, we left Italy ready to take the next steps in supporting rural communities to set up their own energy cooperatives.
